  • Bring 2 acceptable pieces of identification in person to the Guelph Police Service Headquarters,15 Wyndham St. S., Guelph OR to a 3rd party approved agency.
  • OR apply for a record check online through our online records check website
  • You must be a current resident within the city limits of Guelph and have proof of that address.
  • Police record checks take approximately 3 weeks to complete.
  • Completed checks containing criminal record and/or police record information are to be mailed to or picked-up in person by applicants, depending on arrangements at the time of application, within 35 days of being notified by telephone.
  • Otherwise, completed checks are mailed to the applicant at the Guelph address provided.


  • It is the choice of the applicant to decide whether they want to discuss the results of the Police Record Check with the requesting agency.
  • The role of Guelph Police Service is to provide the applicant with the results of the Police Record Check. The agency is responsible for determining the suitability of the applicant for the position.
  • The result of any Police Record Check is just one component of the information available to and evaluated by the agency.
  • By performing a Police Record Check, Guelph Police Service is in no way making a recommendation on the suitability of the applicant for the position nor should the agency consider the existence of information to mean a compulsory disqualification of the individual.
  • It is important to note that information contained within a Police Record Check is based upon information provided by the applicant and Guelph Police Service cannot guarantee it will identify all information pertaining to the individual. 

The People and Information Network (PIN)

Nonprofit and charitable organizations can apply to become part of the Best Practices in Volunteer Screening Program, and, if eligible, will be able to obtain free police records checks for their volunteers who work with vulnerable populations. 

When applying for a free police record check a signed letter on the volunteer's agency letterhead must  be supplied indicting the volunteer's name, position and duties.

You will require 2 pieces of identification upon delivery of your Record Check application form:

  • One piece must be government issued confirming your identity and Guelph residency.

Acceptable Identification

  • Federal, Provincial or Municipal identification card
  • Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) identification card
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of Indian Status
  • Driver's licence
  • FAST/Nexus cards
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • Military Family identification (MFID)
  • Permanent Resident (PR) card
  • Police Service issued warrant card
  • Valid student identity card from a Canadian or foreign institute
  • Ontario Health Card
  • Ontario Photo Card

NOTE: Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) are not acceptable for identification purposes

NOTE:  If your current Guelph address is not on your identification you must bring proof of residency (Utility bills, rental lease agreement, University of Guelph "MyHousing", etc.)

Application Forms and Fees

  • Employment $35, all others $30 *

Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check

  • Employment $40, all others $35 *

Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Employment $40, all others $35 *

Record Suspension Applicants - $70

Forms of Payment

  • Cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, certified cheques or money orders 
  • Personal cheques not accepted
