Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI)

PLEASE NOTE:  2018 YIPI Applicants who were successfully chosen for an interview have been contacted. If you have not been contacted, we would like to thank you for your interest in this program and encourage you to apply again next year.

The Youth in Policing Program was established in 2006 and is funded in part by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. The goal of the Guelph Police Service Youth in Police Initiative, as directed by the Ministry, is to provide an educational summer working experience for students of Guelph.

Police Services are a vital community partner and youth are crucial to our community's success. Over the course of eight weeks, the selected students will work with the Guelph Police Service, and participate in educational and community activities relating to policing and community leadership.

This program is open to all students between the ages of 15 and 18 that reside in the city of Guelph. Students must also be returning to school in September 2018. Students can apply online by clicking here. The Online Application process will take approximately ten to fifteen minutes to complete.  Please note the students also MUST upload both a resume and cover letter.

Alternatively, students can also pick up applications at the Guelph Police Service station or city high school guidance offices. The application deadline is Sunday April 22nd, 2018.

There are several noteworthy aspects of the Youth in Policing Program. The program provides significant insight into policing as a career. Students gain exposure to divisions such as Canine, Communications, Traffic, and the Tactical unit.

Participants will also experience substantial character development and growth and will learn to value the importance of community service. Students will also have the opportunity to enhance their goal setting skills. The wide variety of tasks involved in Policing will allow participants to extensively diversify their personal skill sets. This is a paid position, working Monday to Friday for eight weeks. The selected individuals will also become CPR and First Aid certified.
