We are seeking a diverse group of dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in serving the community by becoming a member of the Guelph Police Service. Basic Minimum Requirements |
To be considered for a career in policing, you must meet certain minimum requirements as outlined in the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA). Specifically, you MUST:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public.
- Have successfully completed at least four years of secondary school education or equivalent as per the CSPA. (Note: official transcripts and diplomas will be required.) Where education has been completed outside Ontario, official proof of equivalency must be obtained by contacting the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training. See approved list of private agencies that provide accepted document assessments services for a fee.
- Be of good moral character, meaning that you are an individual other people would look upon as being trustworthy and having integrity.
In addition, you MUST:
- Possess a valid driver's licence with no more than six accumulated demerit-points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges.
- Have a current certification in CPR and First Aid - Level C.
- Be able to pass a security clearance as well as background investigation, credit and reference checks. If you have any criminal convictions under a federal statute, you must obtain a pardon. If you have ‘Findings of Guilt’ which have resulted in absolute or conditional discharges, the records must be ‘sealed’ by the RCMP

Experienced Officers

To apply as an experienced officer, you must be a currently serving officer in Canada and have served a minimum of one year with your current police service. Experienced military police officers, use this process to apply, please note you may still be required to attend the Ontario Police College for Basic Constable Training once hired.
Before submitting your application, please ensure that you have all the required documents listed below:
- Cover Letter & Detailed Resume
- OPC Certificate and Transcripts; OR OPC Equivalency Certificate and Transcripts (out of province)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Ontario Fitness Pin for the current year
- Two recent Performance Appraisals from your current police service
- Proof of current Use of Force qualifications
- Photocopy of official High School transcripts and diploma
- Photocopies of official College and/or University transcripts (even if incomplete)
- Photocopies of College and/or University diploma
- Any other pertinent information the candidate feels is relevant
- OACP Consent and Release of Liability Form

Constable Hiring Process |
- Submit your completed application. It remains active for one year from the date received.
- Shuttle Run. This will always be the first step after submitting your completed application.
- Applicants will complete a Pre-background Questionnaire and review it with the Recruiter.
- A Local Focus Interview based on local knowledge, developmental and some essential competencies - One on one with a Recruiter.
- An Essential Competencies Interview with two Recruiters.
- The Ontario Fitness PIN test. This will be conducted as a part of the candidate's overall evaluation and is not considered a pass or fail assessment. Rather, this is a tool used by the Guelph Police Service that helps to determine overall suitability for the position.
- Career interview with Recruiter.
- Driving evaluation.
- Psychological evaluation. This consists of a written portion and an interview to determine suitability.
- Background investigation. This is an extensive investigation into the background and suitability of the candidate.
- Conditional offer of employment, contingent upon a subsequent medical examination, and completion of the Ontario Police College Basic Constable Training.
Please be advised that some of the steps may occur out of order, but candidates are required to be successful at each stage. The process is competitive and candidates can be eliminated or deferred at any point.
