We are seeking a diverse group of dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in serving the community by becoming a member of the Guelph Police Service.  Basic Minimum Requirements
To be considered for a career in policing, you must meet certain minimum requirements as outlined in the Police Services Act. Specifically, you MUST:

1. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

2. Be at least 18 years of age.

3. Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public.

4. Have successfully completed at least four years of secondary school education or its equivalent. (Note: official transcripts and diplomas will be required.) Where education has been completed outside Ontario, official proof of equivalency must be obtained by contacting the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training.

5. Be of good moral character and habits, meaning that you are an individual other people would look upon as being trustworthy and having integrity.

In addition, you MUST:

1. Possess a valid driver's licence with no more than six accumulated demerit-points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges.

2. Have current certification in CPR and first aid by the time the offer of employment is given.

3. Be able to pass a security clearance as well as background investigation, credit and reference checks. If you have any criminal convictions under a federal statute, you must obtain a pardon. If you have ‘Findings of Guilt’ which have resulted in absolute or conditional discharges, the records must be ‘sealed’ by the RCMP

As of January 1st, 2020, the Ontario Association of Police Chief’s (OACP) Constable Selection System (CSS) process to obtain a Certificate of Results changed. This new process applies to all Constable and Special Constable applicants. The Guelph Police Service recognizes this transition period presented some challenges to applicants. In an effort to alleviate some of these challenges, the Guelph Police Service has implemented an option for a partially valid ATS issued Certificate of Results.

Certificate Of Results - Requirements
Must possess one of the following:
i) A currently valid ATS issued OACP Certificate of Results; OR
ii) A partially valid ATS issued OACP Certificate of Results - i.e. some parts have expired but it was completely valid within the previous 365 days at the time of application (*); OR
iii) A current and valid OACP Certificate, issued since January 1st, 2020, through OACP Certificate Testing 

(*) Note - If you are submitting your partially valid ATS Certificate of Results:
-A Fitness Log must also be completed.
-If your Hearing and Vision requirements have expired you must complete the OACP Medical Examination Package.

 How To Apply - New Constable, Experienced Officer and Special Constable

Due to the COVID-19 virus and business closures in our community, we are making some temporary changes to our police application process.

If you are unable to obtain a First Aid/CPR certificate and/or hearing and vision testing, you are able to mail in your application without those documents. However, applicants who are successful in the process must understand that that they will need to have all those required documents successfully completed ASAP and by the time a job offer is given.

Please also add a note in your application indicating what you have not been able to obtain and why, also acknowledging your understanding of these instructions.

 Constable Hiring Process
  1. Submit your completed application. It remains active for one year from the date received.
  2. Applicants will complete a Pre-background Questionnaire and review it with the Recruiter. 
  3. A Local Focus Interview based on local knowledge, developmental and some essential competencies - One on one with a Recruiter.
  4. An Essential Competencies Interview with two Recruiters.
  5. The Ontario Fitness PIN test. This will be conducted as a part of the candidate's overall evaluation and is not considered a pass or fail assessment. Rather, this is a tool used by the Guelph Police Service that helps to determine overall suitability for the position.
  6. Phone interview with Recruiter.
  7. Driving evaluation.
  8. Psychological evaluation. This consists of a written portion and an interview to determine suitability.
  9. Background investigation. This is an extensive investigation into the background and suitability of the candidate.
  10. Conditional offer of employment, contingent upon a subsequent medical examination, and completion of the Ontario Police College Basic Constable Training.

Please be advised that some of the steps may occur out of order, but candidates are required to be successful at each stage. The process is competitive and candidates can be eliminated or deferred at any point.

If you are not an experienced officer and would like to apply, keep in mind the competencies that the Guelph Police Service are looking for:
