Drug unit arrests two, large cocaine seizure

During the month of May, the Guelph Police Drug Unit has been investigating a supply of cocaine and other substances within Guelph. On May 14, 2019, the Drug Unit made two arrests and seized a large quantity of cocaine. Approximately 1,000 grams of cocaine, 50 Percocet pills, almost $3,000 in cash and other drug paraphernalia were seized.

A 23-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose and two counts of drive disqualified. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 20-year-old Waterloo man has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Car strikes man in wheelchair 

On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a collision at Edinburgh Road North and Willow Road. Investigation determined that at approximately 11:36 a.m., a 56-year-old Guelph man operating an electric wheel chair was crossing within the intersection when he was struck by a four door sedan which was operated by a 50-year-old Guelph woman. The sedan then partially left the roadway and struck a cement retaining wall on the east side of the roadway.

The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by members of the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services. He sustained a number of broken bones as a result of the collision. The female driving the sedan was uninjured.

Several witnesses remained at the scene and provided very important information to police that has assisted in the investigation. Anyone that witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police are asked to get in touch with the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit at (519) 824-1212 extension 7514. The investigation is ongoing.

As we enter into the Provincial wide Road Safety Week, the Guelph Police ask all drivers of motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to stay alert, avoid distractions and slow down!

Paramedic injured by man he was helping

On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police and Guelph Wellington Paramedics went to Clair Road East to assist a man that was intoxicated, had fallen, and hit his head. Paramedics were transporting the man to hospital when he became aggressive and grabbed one of them causing an injury. At that point, police had to assist with the transport. The man was treated for his injury at hospital and then arrested.

The 49-year-old Guelph man has been charged with assault. He will appear in court on June 25, 2019.

 

Three arrested on warrants

A 25-year-old Guelph man arrested on two warrants for a total of three counts of breach probation. He will appear in court on July 2, 2019.

A 20-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for assault. He will appear in court on July 2, 2019.

A 45-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for fail to re-attend court and possess over 30 grams of cannabis. He will appear in court on June 24, 2019.

 

Break and enter

On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police went to an Eramosa Road apartment building for the report of a break and enter. The mailboxes located in the front had been pried open but an apparent attempt to access the building failed.

Theft from cars

On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police received four reports of theft from cars. The locations were London Road, College Avenue West, Elizabeth Street and Phillip Avenue

Over the past 24 hours the Guelph Police Service dealt with 248 calls for service.
