Man arrested getting into stolen SUV
A Guelph man faces more than two dozen charges after he was arrested Thursday afternoon getting into a stolen SUV.
Approximately 3:30 p.m. members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit located a stolen Acura MDX in a parking lot on Fife Road after earlier spotting a male driving it.
Officers conducted surveillance on the vehicle and approximately 5:30 p.m. saw the man walking towards it carrying several bags. He was placed under arrest and the key to the vehicle was located in his pocket.
A search incident to arrest revealed a BB rifle and ammunition, more than 80 small packages of cannabis and hashish and eight identity documents and two credit cards in various names. Investigation revealed the man is bound by several court orders, including nine separate driving prohibitions.
A 28-year-old Guelph man is facing a long list of charges including two counts of possessing stolen property, eight counts of possessing an identity document, two counts of possession for the purpose of distributing under the Cannabis Act and nine counts of driving while prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
Mom, daughter sleeping during break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three males broke into an east-end home while the tenant and her young daughter were sleeping.
Approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday, three males entered a basement apartment near Starwood Drive and Grange Road by kicking in a door. The tenant, who was awakened by the noise, screamed and the males fled.
The three were captured on security video. They were described as:
- Tanned male, black puffy coat with white logo on the left chest, black hoodie with hood up, light-coloured shirt under the hoodie, black pants, black shoes, black baseball cap with white logo on front, blue medical mask
- Male wearing grey hoodie with white logo on the chest, black pants, black shoes with white stripes, blue latex gloves and blue medical mask
- Male wearing grey hoodie with ‘Essentials’ on the back in black writing, black sweatpants with white bear logo on the left leg, black gloves, grey boots, black mask

Men arrested for rural break-in
Two Guelph men were arrested for break and enter at a rural farm property in Milton.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit attended a farm property near Mohawk Casino just before 3 p.m. Thursday. They observed a padlock had been cut off a farm gate to gain access to the property.
Officers located two males sitting in a vehicle beside an open barn door, and observed a fire inside the barn with plastic and copper wire burning. A search of the car revealed a large amount of stripped copper wire, as well as bolt cutters and other tools.
A 45-year-old Guelph man and a 39-year-old Guelph man are each charged with break and enter, possessing break-in tools and possessing stolen property. They were held for bail hearings Friday.
