Loud muffler leads to impaired charge

A Guelph male faces impaired driving charges after his vehicle’s faulty exhaust system attracted the attention of officers early Monday.

Approximately 2:20 a.m. a Guelph Police Service officer observed a motor vehicle leaving an address on Waterloo Avenue while emitting excessive noise. The vehicle was stopped and the driver admitted consuming an alcoholic beverage. After registering a ‘fail’ on an approved screening device the male was arrested and taken to the Guelph Police station, where further testing revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 50-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol content and novice driver having alcohol in his system. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court June 18, 2021.

Nearly $10,000 in steel stolen from business

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after nearly $10,000 worth of stainless steel was stolen from a Guelph business on the weekend.

Approximately 7:20 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a business in the area of Curtis Drive and Monarch Road. The owner of a business advised he arrived at work to find a large quantity of stainless steel rods had been removed from the property. Nearly 60 rods with an estimated value of $9,975 were stolen.

Police investigating indecent act incident

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a male exposed himself Saturday afternoon to a female motorist.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a female called police and indicated she was pulling out of a commercial parking lot on Silvercreek Parkway North near Willow Road when a male crossed in front of her vehicle. The male stopped in front of her vehicle and exposed himself while looking at her.

The male is described as Black, 40 to 45 years of age, short, skinny build with short black hair. He was wearing a maroon long-sleeved shirt and plaid shorts. He was last seen walking eastbound on Willow Road. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the male.

Commercial break-in under investigation

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a west-end business was entered early Sunday morning.

Approximately 1:30 a.m. police were called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North near Speedvale Avenue West. An employee on scene advised she got a call from the alarm company and arrived to find the glass front door smashed.

Video revealed a male entered the business at approximately 12:35 a.m. after throwing something through the glass front door. He fled with approximately $1,200 worth of tools.

The male is described as Caucasian, 20 to 40 years of age, clean shaven, wearing a blue hoodie, black track pants with red and white cuffs and white gloves. He is believed to have arrived in a vehicle.

Male arrested in break and enter investigation

A Guelph male has been arrested following an investigation into a residential break and enter last month.

On May 22, approximately 2:40 a.m. the male entered the garage of a home in the area of Willow Road and Flaherty Drive. He stole a quantity of tools before entering a motor vehicle in the driveway, though nothing was stolen.

The male went next door and entered two vehicles, stealing GPS units, cash and keys. The crimes were captured on video surveillance and officers recognized the male. He was located approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the area of Woolwich Street and Woodlawn Road West and arrested.

A 26-year-old Guelph male is charged with break and enter, trespass by night, theft under $5,000 and breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court September 24, 2021.
