Multiple Assault Incidents – Youth Charged

On September 20, 2022 a 22-year-old Guelph male was downtown, in the area of a parkade, when two males not known to him began speaking to him. The verbal exchange escalated to a point where he was knocked to the ground and kicked several times. At the time, the suspects were unknown.

On October 27, 2022 a 63-year-old Guelph male was sleeping in his motorized scooter in a parkade. This male is homeless and disabled. While sleeping, the male was attacked by multiple youths, receiving multiple punches and kicks. At the time, the suspects were unknown.

On November 17, 2022 a 15-year-old male was on Grange Road and was confronted by two youths, who suddenly attacked him. He was punched multiple times and received a black eye. As a result of this investigation and the two previous assault investigations, two youths were identified as suspects.

Note, as previously reported, on November 9, 2022, there was a disturbance at Bullfrog Mall, where two youths were arrested and charged for an unprovoked attack. Police allege the youths that were arrested are the same as the suspects involved in the three incidents detailed.

On November 18, 2022, a 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with three counts of assault, assault with a weapon and fail to comply with undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing and released by courts.

A second youth, who has not been located yet, is facing charges related to the assaults detailed above.

Wanted Male – Arrested

On November 18, 2022, Guelph police were patrolling downtown when an officer observed a male known to be wanted for failing to attend court. The male was spoken to and arrested. As the male was being arrested, he broke free from police and ran. Police pursued on foot and eventually captured the male. A search incident to arrest revealed the male was in possession of stolen items and a controlled substance suspected to be fentanyl.

The 28-year-old Guelph male was charged with possession of identify documents, possession of stolen credit cards, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, escape lawful custody, resist arrest, fail to attend court and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing that occurred over the weekend.

Female Arrested for Assault

On November 19, 2022, a 27-year-old Guelph female is alleged to have entered a downtown pharmacy, where she began arguing with staff over an item she demanded. The female became verbally aggressive with staff and was asked to leave. The female refused to leave and continued to be aggressive towards staff. The female was escorted out of the store by staff. At this point, the female is alleged to have punched a staff member in the face. Police were called to investigate. The female was identified and located at a residential apartment on Carden Street.  

The 27-year-old female was charged with assault and released with a January 2023 court date.

Downtown Assault

On November 20, 2022 a 13-year-old Guelph youth was downtown when confronted by an unknown male. This male suddenly assaulted him by striking him on the shoulder. The suspect is described as a male, white, in his 40s, with a buzz cut hair style, wearing a black toque and a blue and white coat.

Assault Police – Arrest

On November 20, 2022, Guelph police were called to a Westwood Road residence for a check well-being call. Police located a 31-year-old male and began speaking with him. It is alleged the male suddenly attacked police, kicking one officer and punching another.

The 31-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of assault police. He was subsequently released with a January 2023 court date.

Break and Enter – Arrest

On November 20, 2022, police were called to a business near the intersection of Dawson Road and Speedvale Avenue West. When police arrived at the business, a male was observed fleeing the area on foot. The male was eventually captured on Applewood Crescent. A search incident to arrest revealed what is believed to be a controlled substance on his person.

The 34-year-old Guelph male was charged with break and enter, possession of a controlled substance (suspected fentanyl) and fail to attend court.  Investigation revealed the male was already wanted for an October 14, 2022 incident where he is alleged to have fled from police on an electric bicycle with no pedals (defined as a motor vehicle). For that incident, the male was further charged with flight from peace officer, operation while prohibited and failing to comply with an undertaking.

August Break and Enter – Arrest

On August 26, 2022, police were called to a residential building on Ryde Road, where there was a report of a break and enter. Investigation revealed two suspects entered the underground parking lot and then into a storage area, where they stole a bicycle. The two suspects were identified, and a warrant was issued for their arrest.

On November 20, 2022, police were at a Waterloo Avenue residential complex when they observed one of the two males that were wanted for the break and enter. This male was arrested without incident. The 39-year-old Guelph male was charged with break and enter and possession of break-in instruments. He was released with a January 2023 court date. A second male is still outstanding.
