Unknown male offered teen a ride

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an unknown male offered a teen girl a ride Wednesday morning.

Approximately 8:25 a.m. a 16-year-old was waiting at a bus stop near Paisley Road and Imperial Road South when a male stopped his car, opened the door and offered her a ride. She declined and the male drove away.

He was described as a black male with short black hair and an accent. He was driving a burgundy four-door car believed to be a Ford.

Impaired, drug charges laid

A Guelph man faces impaired and drug trafficking charges after he was found passed out in a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:40 p.m. police were notified of a male in a vehicle in a parking lot at Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South. Officers arrived to find an unconscious male in the driver’s seat. In his lap officers observed medical tubing attached to a glass tube with a burnt end.

After banging on the window several times officers were able to wake the male, who showed signs of impairment. He was placed under arrest and later examined by a trained expert, who concluded he was impaired by a narcotic.

During a search of the vehicle officers located quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a scale.

A 63-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court December 13.

 

Arrest in large LCBO thefts

A Guelph man has been arrested after $2,800 in alcohol was stolen from a local LCBO.

On October 29, a male and female entered the LCBO location on Paisley Road, placed 13 bottles of scotch in a reusable shopping bag and walked out of the store. One week later the same male attended the same store and stole 12 more bottles of scotch and two bottles of tequila.

LCBO loss prevention staff were able to identify the male through previous dealings. On Tuesday a 32-year-old Guelph man was arrested for two counts of theft under $5,000. He will appear in court January 3.

 

Stunt driver taken off road

A Fergus woman was taken off the road after she was caught Wednesday driving nearly double the speed limit in Guelph.

At 8:45 a.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road East at Country Club Drive when he clocked a Mini travelling 96 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 29-year-old Fergus woman is charged with speeding and stunt driving. Her licence was suspended for 30 days and her vehicle was impounded for 14 days. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.
