Weapons charges following drug arrest
A Guelph man faces weapons charges after he was arrested Thursday as part of an initiative targeting open drug use in the downtown core.
Just before 11 a.m. officers were patrolling on Quebec Street when they observed a male smoking from a pipe close to pedestrians walking by. He was placed under arrest and the pipe containing suspected methamphetamine was seized.
During a search of the male, officers located two spring-assisted knives, including one which had been modified so the blade remained open with elastic ties. Investigation revealed he is bound by a court-imposed weapons prohibition.
A 25-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a controlled substance and two counts each of carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a weapon. He will appear in court January 10.
Child porn arrest
A Guelph man faces child pornography charges following an investigation by the Guelph Police Service Internet Child Exploitation unit.
In October, information was received from the US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children about images which had been uploaded in August to a social media site. Investigation led to the identity of the person who uploaded the images.
On Thursday an 18-year-old Guelph man – who was 17 at the time of the offence – was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography and making child pornography available. He will appear in court in January.
This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

Vehicle seized following third impaired arrest
A Guelph man had his vehicle seized indefinitely after he was charged Thursday with impaired driving for the third time in just over a year.
Approximately 1:15 p.m. an officer was patrolling on Municipal Street when the cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted him to a licence plate belonging to a suspended driver. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver confirmed to be the owner.
While speaking to the driver the officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. He was arrested and breath tests at the police station confirmed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Investigation also revealed the male is a suspended driver as a result of impaired driving charges in October, 2023, and June of this year.
A 45-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation and driving while suspended. Under the Highway Traffic Act his vehicle was seized indefinitely to prevent further offences. He will appear in court January 7.
