What is Freedom of Information?
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) applies to all municipalities in Ontario as well as Police Services.
MFIPPA gives individuals the right to request access to information held by Police Services, including both operational and administrative documents as well as records containing an individual's personal information.
MFIPPA also requires Police Services to protect personal information contained in their record holdings. These requirements are outlined in a set of rules governing the proper collection, retention, use, disclosure and disposal of personal information.
This publication outlines the information most commonly requested by individuals and provides answers to frequently asked questions for those seeking to obtain information from the Guelph Police Service through the MFIPPA process.
