Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI)

Are you looking for a summer job where you can gain real-world experience, develop new skills and make a difference in your community?

The Guelph Police Service Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) gives young people the opportunity to work alongside police officers and civilian members while learning about the many different roles that contribute to community safety.

YIPI is more than a summer job. It is an opportunity to build your confidence, strengthen your resume, develop leadership skills and see what a career in policing or other public-service fields could look like.

Applications for the 2027 YIPI program open in March 2027.

What is YIPI?

The Youth in Policing Initiative is a paid summer employment program that gives youth the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience within the Guelph Police Service.

YIPI participants work with both uniformed and civilian members and are introduced to the many different areas that make up a modern police service.

You could gain experience in areas such as:

Community engagement and outreach
Administrative and office support
Public education and presentations
Records and information management
Special events and community activities
Communications and other police-service operations

Your work will vary depending on the needs of the Service and the opportunities available during the program.

You will also have the opportunity to learn from police officers and civilian employees, participate in training and develop skills that can help you in future education and employment.
