Boy arrested after weapons incident

A 13-year-old was arrested after an incident Friday which led to several south-end schools being briefly placed in a hold and secure situation.

Approximately 1:30 p.m. police received a report of a person with a firearm near College Avenue West and Vanier Drive. A witness reported the suspect removed a firearm from a backpack and racked the slide before putting it back in the backpack and fleeing the area.

Schools in the area were briefly placed in hold and secure before officers located the suspect inside a nearby business.

Officers recovered a realistic-looking air pistol as well as a unique knife later determined to be stolen.

A 13-year-old Guelph boy is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing stolen property and failing to comply with an undertaking. He will appear in court November 4. (Occurrence number GU26063539)
