Deputy Chief Daryl Goetz retiring

After 38 years in policing, including the last six years as Deputy Chief with Guelph Police Service (GPS), Daryl Goetz will be retiring May 1, 2026.

“I want to thank Deputy Chief Goetz for his service throughout his career and in particular for his contributions over the past six years with our service,” said Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey. “Deputy Chief Goetz has worked tirelessly supporting our members and our community.  His leadership has played a critical role in the growth of our service.  We wish him the very best in his retirement.”

Deputy Chief Goetz was awarded the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, Member Order of Merit (M.O.M.) in 2023 in recognition of exceptional service over his extensive career. He has a broad and diverse background in policing, having previously served in Intelligence, Drug Units, Professional Standards, Tactical Support, and as the Superintendent of Investigative Services with Waterloo Regional Police Service.

Since joining GPS, Deputy Chief Goetz has played a key role in the evolution and modernization of the organization. He was instrumental in the implementation of the new Community Safety Operations Centre, an important initiative that will continue to support the safety of residents.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to extend our congratulations to Deputy Chief Goetz on his upcoming retirement,” said Guelph Police Service Board Chair Peter McSherry. “His contributions have helped develop a strong foundation for the service to continue providing leadership and innovative policing to our growing community.”

The Guelph Police Service Board will now begin the selection process for a new deputy chief who exemplifies the service’s core values and can provide strong leadership while advancing its strategic priorities.
