Guelph school locked down after threats
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after threats placed a high school in lockdown Thursday afternoon.
Just after 1 p.m. police learned of a threat against Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute on Paisley Street. The school was placed in lockdown after consultation with Upper Grand District School Board officials.
Officers contained the school and conducted a thorough search. Nothing was found and the threat is believed to be unfounded. The lockdown was lifted at 2:15 p.m.
The Guelph Police Service recognizes the importance of school safety and how threats of this nature can be difficult for students, staff, and their families. Police take incidents like this extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with school boards to help identify the individuals responsible and lay the appropriate criminal charges when a suspect is identified.
The incident remains under investigation.
