Inspector Andrew Goody promoted to Deputy Chief of Police
The Guelph Police Service Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Inspector Andrew Goody to the position of Deputy Chief of the Guelph Police Service.

“The Board Selection Committee is confident that Inspector Goody’s varied experience, education, and expertise will be of great benefit as we continue to build on the solid foundation of the Guelph Police Service, plan for the future, and continue to ensure the highest level of policing to the citizens of Guelph,” stated Guelph Police Service Board Chair, Peter McSherry, in announcing the appointment.
Deputy Chief Designate Goody is a life-long resident of Guelph and joined the Guelph Police Service in 2002.
Throughout his career, he has held several roles with the Guelph Police Service including Constable Uniform Patrol, Acting Sergeant/Team Leader Tactics and Rescue Unit, Sergeant Front Line Patrol, Sergeant Professional Standards, Staff Sergeant Front Line Patrol, Staff Sergeant Court Services, and Inspector Administrative Services. In his most recent role, Inspector Goody oversaw Neighbourhood Services Field Support which includes the Community Safety Operations Centre (CSOC), Community Safety Unit, Traffic, Tactics and Rescue, Canine, and the Critical Incident Response Team.
Deputy Chief Designate Goody holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph. He has also completed several leadership courses including the International Chiefs of Police Leadership Course, the Rotman School of Business University of Toronto Police Leadership Program and is currently working towards completion of the Certificate in Police Leadership through Dalhousie University and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Certificate in Executive Police Leadership.
In addition to his extensive experience, Deputy Chief Designate Goody has deep roots in our community. “Deputy Chief Goody grew up in Guelph, has raised his family here, and is involved in many community initiatives during his down time. His appointment to this role will greatly support the ongoing growth and evolution of our service as we strive to ensure the best possible service delivery for our very diverse and rapidly growing city,” stated Chief Gord Cobey.
Deputy Chief Designate Goody will step into his new role effective May 3, 2026, and is replacing Deputy Chief Daryl Goetz who is retiring effective May 1, 2026.
