$100,000 in jewelry stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a resident reported more than $100,000 in jewelry missing from her home.

The complainant reported she noticed the jewelry – including several rings and earrings – missing from her downtown condo after returning recently from an extended trip. The stolen jewelry includes a family heirloom rose gold ring passed down from her grandfather.

The theft remains under investigation. Arrest after hit and run

A Guelph man has been arrested following a hit and run collision last month.

Just after 5 p.m. March 22 a motorist reported being involved in a collision near Woodlawn Road West and Nicklin Road. The other driver fled the scene but was located by police at his residence approximately one hour layer. Fresh damage was noted on his pickup.

The man told police after leaving the scene he attended a business on Woodlawn Road West. Further investigation revealed he is bound by two different court orders with a condition not to attend that business.

On Monday a 71-year-old Guelph man was arrested for two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to remain at a collision and careless driving. He will appear in court June 23. (Occurrence number GU26020491)

 

Plate reader catches prohibited driver

An Erin man who is prohibited from driving was arrested Tuesday and had his boss’ vehicle impounded.

Just after 11 a.m. an officer was patrolling downtown when her cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted to a vehicle without a current permit. The vehicle was pulled over and through investigation it was determined the driver is prohibited from driving following a hit and run conviction.

A 29-year-old Erin man is charged with driving while prohibited, driving while suspended, breaching a probation order and driving without a valid permit. He will appear in court June 23. His boss’ car was impounded for 45 days. (Occurrence number GU26020654)
