Boy arrested after threats against school

A Guelph boy was arrested Tuesday night after police became aware of threats against a local school.

Approximately 7:45 p.m. police learned a student had sent messages to friends that he wanted to buy a gun and “shoot up the school.”

Police were able to identify the subject with assistance from school board officials. Just before 10 p.m. a 15-year-old Guelph boy was arrested for uttering threats. He will appear in court in June.

There is no evidence the boy had a weapon or that any threat to the school existed.

The Guelph Police Service recognizes the importance of school safety and how threats of this nature can be difficult for students, staff, and their families. Police take incidents like this extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with school boards to help identify the individuals responsible and lay the appropriate criminal charges when a suspect is identified. South-end home entered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a south-end residence was entered and ransacked.

Just after 1 p.m. Tuesday police were called to a home near Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West. Sometime since Friday, someone smashed a rear glass sliding door to access the house. Most rooms had drawers or closets opened and ransacked. A small amount of costume jewelry was reported missing.
