Clerk bitten by shoplifter

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after the owner of a west-end business was bitten while attempting to stop a shoplifter Wednesday evening.

Just after 6:15 p.m. police were called to a business near Willow Road and Dawson Road. The owner said two females had come into the store to buy alcohol but did not have identification and left empty-handed.

A short time later one of them returned and grabbed a case of alcohol. She attempted to flee but was stopped by the owner. A struggle ensued during which the owner sustained a bite near their wrist and a small cut on their hand. The suspect fled with one can of alcohol. The victim declined medical attention.

The woman was described as 5’6” with blonde hair and wearing a black dress with a printed pattern. She was last seen on foot on Willow Road towards Edinburgh Road North.

Arrest in recent bike thefts

A Guelph man faces charges related to several recent bicycle thefts.

On April 11, a man reported his Trek mountain bike had been stolen from outside a business on Silvercreek Parkway North. The theft was caught on security cameras and police were able to identify the suspect.

On Wednesday morning officers executed a search warrant at an address on Speedvale Avenue East and arrested a man. Following investigation officers connected the suspect to two other recent stolen bicycle reports.

A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000, two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000, trafficking stolen property and wearing a disguise while committing an offence. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26025965)

 

Arrest in assault investigation

A Guelph woman faces charges after a man was assaulted with a garden hose last October.

On October 8 police were called to a home near downtown. The victim reported being involved in an altercation with a woman known to him, during which he was punched several times and then struck on the wrist with the nozzle after the woman swung the hose at him. He did not require medical attention.

The suspect had fled prior to police arrival. On Wednesday she was located during an unrelated call for service and arrested.

A 38-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault, assault with a weapon and disobeying a court order. She will appear in court May 19. (Occurrence number GU25025965)
