Arrest after man assaulted, flashed
A Guelph woman faces several charges after a man was assaulted and flashed by a stranger Saturday evening.
Approximately 8:30 p.m. police were called to the area of Nottingham Street and Dublin Street South. The caller said he was working in his driveway when he heard a woman walking down the street yelling and swearing. She approached the complainant and stomped on his sunglasses, which were on the ground, before bumping into him as she walked past and into his backyard.
The complainant began video recording the woman while calling 911. While he was on the phone with police the woman lifted her dress to expose her genitals to him.
Officers located the woman nearby and placed her under arrest. A 51-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault, mischief under $5,000, committing an indecent act and causing a disturbance. She was held for bail and has been released to appear in court October 30. (Occurrence number GU26052959)
Jewelry stolen in two distraction thefts
Residents are reminded to be cautious when approached by strangers after two men had gold chains stolen in separate incidents over the weekend.
Approximately 8 a.m. Saturday an older man was outside his home near Brentwood Drive and June Avenue when he was approached by two people in a vehicle who called out to him. When he approached they began praying in another language and a female passenger offered him a necklace. After they left he noticed his 14-karat gold chain was missing. The suspects were described as a possibly Indian couple, both wearing white and driving a black vehicle.
Saturday afternoon, a second victim reported he was walking near York Road and Kingsmill Avenue when a couple in a grey SUV approached and asked for directions. As he spoke to them, a female passenger attempted to give him a ring and also removed the victim’s gold chain while trying to put another chain around the victim’s neck.
The suspects were described as a man and woman, possibly Indian in their mid-30s. The male driver was wearing blue jeans, an unknown shirt and glasses. The female passenger was possibly wearing a white and blue wrap.

Police services across Ontario have seen an increase in these distraction-type thefts. Typically, older adults are approached by individuals in a vehicle and engaged in conversation, during which a female passenger will attempt to initiate physical contact by hugging or attempting to place jewelry on the victim. Afterwards the victim realizes their jewelry has been stolen.
Offenders may appear friendly, well‑spoken, or apologetic, and often try to keep the interaction moving quickly to prevent the victim from reacting.
Offenders target moments when attention is divided such as in grocery store or mall parking lots, on sidewalks or near store entrances, while entering or exiting vehicles, when carrying groceries or other items.
Residents should be extremely cautious when approached by individuals not known to them. Try to avoid physical contact and note any identifying information, such as physical descriptions and licence plates. (Occurrence numbers GU26052908, GU26053099)
Tools stolen in garage break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after several tools were stolen from a detached residential garage.
Just after 10:30 a.m. Friday a resident near Eramosa Road and Stuart Street reported his garage had been entered approximately one hour earlier. Saws, a sander, powered screwdriver and other tools were reported missing.
The suspect was caught on security cameras. He was wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up, black pants, dark grey backpack, possibly gloves and was carrying red reusable shopping bags. He was last seen heading towards downtown on Eramosa Road.

Business, vehicles damaged downtown
A Guelph man faces several charges after a business and five vehicles were damaged Saturday night.
Just after 9 p.m. a witness reported a man had smashed a window at a business on Cork Street East by throwing his body against it. The suspect continued walking along the street, damaging vehicles by slamming into them, kicking them or knocking over heavy garbage bins causing them to strike the cars.
A 31-year-old Guelph man was arrested for six counts of mischief under $5,000 and three counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court September 8. (Occurrence number GU26052966)
Four impaired arrests, including one at court
Four people were arrested for impaired driving over the weekend, including one arrested in the parking lot of the courthouse.
At 2:25 p.m. Friday police were called to the Ontario Court of Justice on Wyndham Street South. A witness reported a driver entered one parking lot, drove across the grass and curb to get back onto the road then entered a different parking lot and stopped. Officers arrived and the female driver refused to open her door or comply with officers’ commands.
Eventually an officer had to break the window to extract her from the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing suspected methamphetamine within the driver’s reach.
The woman was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded her ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.
A 42-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, obstructing police and possessing a controlled substance. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court September 22.
Also this weekend:
· A 72-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving following a driving complaint just after 10 p.m. Friday. Officers located him at home, where he had reversed into the garage door causing damage to the vehicle
· A 19-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving just after midnight Saturday while officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a downtown parking lot. Breath tests revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system
· A 29-year-old Waterloo woman was arrested for impaired driving, driving while suspended, driving without insurance and other offences following a traffic stop on Woodlawn Road West at 2:50 p.m. Saturday.
Each of the accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
