Laptops stolen in business break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after four laptops and a cash box were stolen during a break-in at an east-end business.
On Tuesday morning staff of a business near Watson Parkway South and Taggart Street contacted police after arriving at work to discover the items missing.

Driving in river attracts charges
A Guelph man is charged with careless driving after a Jeep was spotted driving in the Speed River Wednesday morning.
Just before 10 a.m. a witness reported two males in a Jeep driving on the pedestrian path at the skatepark on Wellington Street West. The driver intentionally drove into the Speed River and continued for approximately 600 metres. Officers located the Jeep still half in the river under the Hanlon Expressway.
A 53-year-old Guelph man is charged with careless driving and failing to display two licence plates under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court November 18. (Occurrence number GU26053835)
Refusing sample leads to arrest
A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday morning after repeatedly refusing to provide a breath sample during an impaired driving investigation.
Just after 11:30 a.m. police were contacted about a car being driven erratically in the area of Wellington Street West and Edinburgh Road South. A witness reported the vehicle swerving into oncoming lanes and onto the shoulder and the driver waving his arms out the window.
Officers located the vehicle parked crookedly in a plaza at Wellington Street and Gordon Street with the driver apparently asleep. While speaking to the driver officers detected an odour of alcohol and noted the man was having trouble keeping his balance.
He repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample even after being told it is a criminal offence to do so.
A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with refusing to comply with a breath demand. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court September 22.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
