Man arrested following fraud investigation
A 41-year-old Guelph man has been arrested following a lengthy, multi-jurisdictional investigation. He is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from businesses where he was employed.
The Guelph Police Service was first contacted in April 2024 after management at a Guelph hospitality business discovered suspected fraudulent activity. While employed by the business, the man is alleged to have falsified invoices and demanded payment from customers for outstanding balances related to private and corporate events.
The man was terminated after the business discovered the thefts.
In late 2025, the Guelph Police Service was contacted by another police service after the same man was accused of defrauding another hospitality business where he was employed in that jurisdiction. In that matter, he is alleged to have accepted deposits for events without completing the bookings.
The man was arrested August 18 and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court November 3. (Occurrence numbers GU24023337 and GU26006612)
Weapons charges following arrest
A Guelph man faces weapons and other charges after he was arrested Monday on an outstanding warrant.
Just after 9 a.m. officers patrolling downtown spotted a man known to be wanted for assault and breaching a probation order. The man was placed under arrest and during a search officers located a black BB handgun and bag full of BBs. Investigation revealed the man is bound by several weapons prohibitions.
A 29-year-old Guelph man was further charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts each of possessing a weapon contrary to an order and breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26056714)
Cash, tools stolen from business
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after cash and tools were stolen during a break-in at a north-end business.
Just after 9 a.m. Monday police were called to the business near Stevenson Street North and Speedvale Avenue East. The owner had arrived to find cash and a bag of power tools missing.
Security video showed a man gaining entry to the business through a back door approximately 3:45 a.m. He was described as a white man with brown hair and wearing a yellow plaid shirt, jeans, a black backpack, brown shoes and gloves.
