Woman arrested after assault

A Guelph woman has been arrested after another woman reported being assaulted earlier this week.

On Monday evening the complainant reported she was walking out of her south-end townhouse complex when she was approached by a woman known to her. A verbal altercation escalated to pushing before the complainant was punched and slapped in the face, causing her glasses to fall off and break.

On Thursday morning a 55-year-old Guelph woman turned herself in to police and was charged with three counts of assault and mischief under $5,000. She will appear in court November 20. (Occurrence number GU26056924)

Two stunt drivers taken off road

Two men were taken off the road for stunt driving in Guelph Thursday, including one who had his vehicle seized indefinitely.

Just after 9 a.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West near Michener Road when he clocked a Volkswagen sedan travelling 105 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued for more than a kilometre before pulling over.

A 23-year-old Breslau man is charged with speeding, stunt driving, failing to provide his licence and failing to stop for an emergency vehicle. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Just before 1:30 p.m. a different member of the Traffic Unit was patrolling on Hanlon Parkway when he clocked a vehicle travelling 134 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Investigation revealed the driver, a 19-year-old Arthur man, is currently facing stunt driving and dangerous driving charges related to a traffic stop last year.

He was charged with speeding and stunt driving related to Thursday’s incident. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was seized indefinitely to prevent further offences.

A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. (Occurrence numbers GU26057538, GU26057608)
