Adjacent south-end businesses entered
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a pair of neighbouring south-end businesses were entered.
Just after 7 a.m. Friday police were called to a business near Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South after the owner arrived to discover the break-in and noted part of the ceiling had been torn down.
A short time later the manager of a neighbouring business reported a similar break-in with damage to the ceiling. It is believed access to the businesses was gained through a hatch on the roof.
Cash and a safe was stolen from one business while a small amount of equipment was removed from the other. A suspect was caught on video at one of the affected businesses. He was described as wearing a blue sweater with white writing on the front, jeans, white shoes, a multicoloured bandana and gloves.

Traffic stop leads to criminal charges
A traffic stop for improper lights led to several criminal charges for a Brampton man Saturday.
Just before 12:30 a.m. a Guelph Police Service officer noted a vehicle driving near Gordon Street and Wellington Street with the rear lights not properly illuminated. The driver was unable to provide his licence and provided a name later determined to be false.
Officers were eventually able to identify the man and found he is bound by several driving prohibitions and a probation order.
A 25-year-old Brampton man is charged with obstruct police, four counts of driving while prohibited, breaching a probation order and several Highway Traffic Act offences. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court September 25. (Occurrence number GU26058007)
Honda pickup stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Honda pickup was stolen from an east-end neighbourhood.
Just before noon Friday, a resident near Fleming Road and Law Drive reported his sky blue 2024 Honda Ridgeline had been stolen from the driveway over the previous 24 hours. The truck has personalized licence plates but no other distinctive features.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Downtown business break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a downtown business was entered early Saturday.
Just after 10:30 a.m. police were called to a business on Quebec Street. Approximately 2:40 a.m. a man was captured on security cameras entering the business after prying a metal grate off a rear window. A cash register and rose gold-coloured iPhone were reported missing. The man was described as white and wearing a forest green t-shirt, forest green hoodie with a white logo on the front, black pants and black running shoes with white soles.

Two impaired arrests
Two Kitchener residents were arrested for impaired driving following separate traffic stops in Guelph over the weekend.
Just before noon Friday a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Willow Road and Edinburgh Road North. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer immediately noted an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. When asked for his licence the driver handed over his bank card.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 44-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving and careless driving.
Just after 11 p.m. Saturday another Traffic Unit officer was patrolling just outside the city when he observed an SUV with malfunctioning taillights. He followed it and observed the driver to be swerving and braking for no reason. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath and other signs of impairment.
She was arrested and transported to the police station, where test confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 22-year-old Kitchener woman is charged with impaired driving and novice driver having alcohol in their system.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
