Jeeps popular with thieves

Jeeps have been popular with thieves in Guelph this week, with a second one reported stolen Thursday and an attempted theft on another.

Just before 6 a.m. Thursday a resident near Elmira Road South and Rochelle Drive reported her white four-door 2026 Wrangler had been stolen.

Just after 10 a.m. Thursday a resident near Arkell Road and Colonial Drive reported her black four-door 2024 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen from the driveway overnight.

Also Thursday morning a resident near MacAlister Boulevard and Ambrous Crescent reported her white 2025 Jeep Gladiator had been damaged overnight in an apparent theft attempt. The wires in the vehicle’s door and steering column were damaged.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Arrest in organized theft spree

A Guelph woman has been arrested as part of an investigation into organized thefts.

Earlier this year the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit began an investigation into a group of individuals believed to be committing retail thefts in Guelph and surrounding areas.

During May and June they were involved in the theft or attempted theft of nearly $4,000 in merchandise from businesses in Guelph and Campbelville.

In late June two Guelph women aged 44 and 34 were arrested on theft and breaching probation charges. They were released with September court dates.

On Thursday another 34-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for three counts of theft under $5,000 and driving while suspended. She will appear in court October 30. (Occurrence number GU26034193)
