Weapons brandished in roommate dispute
A man and woman each face assault and weapons charges following a disturbance between roommates Friday night.
Just after 9 p.m. police were dispatched to an address near Willow Road and Flaherty Drive. Investigation revealed two roommates were arguing about rent money when one brandished a pair of scissors and uttered a threat. The second roommate pulled out a knife and began motioning in an aggressive manner.
A 41-year-old Guelph man and 24-year-old Guelph woman are each charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The man is also charged with uttering threats. Both will appear in court January 23.
Downtown office entered
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a break-in Sunday evening at a downtown office.
Approximately 8:25 p.m. the manager of a business inside Old Quebec Street Shoppes called police. He was notified of an alarm at the business and checked his security cameras to see a number of youths on scene.
Investigation revealed three males attended the business and pried open the door. Two entered the business while the third fled on foot. It is not known if anything was stolen.

Second phone ‘bought’ with fake cash
For the second time this month the Guelph Police Service is investigating after fake $100 bills were used to buy a phone.
Approximately 10:45 p.m. Sunday a resident near Victoria Road North and Woodlawn Road East reported he was selling an iPhone 16 Pro through Facebook Marketplace and arranged for the buyer to attend his residence, where he handed over 10 $100 bills.
The seller believed the bills were fake and questioned the suspect, who fled on foot with the phone. He was described as a brown male, approximately 18 and wearing a black puffy coat. His Facebook profile was deleted after the incident.
On December 3 a resident near Fleming Road and Severn Drive reported a similar transaction, with the suspect in that case handing over seven bogus $100 bills for an iPhone 15 Pro. The suspect had a similar description and was caught on video arriving and leaving in a white Mercedes with two other males.

Kitchener pair arrested in stolen car
A Kitchener man and woman face charges after they were caught in a stolen car in Guelph Friday morning.
Information was received from Waterloo Regional Police that a Mercedes stolen earlier that morning from Kitchener was tracking near Speedvale Avenue East and Victoria Road North. Members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit attended the area and located the car.
A woman was arrested after exiting the car and walking away. A counterfeit $100 bill was located on her person. A male was arrested sitting in the driver’s seat. A search incident to arrest revealed identification and a cheque which were both stolen. Security video from Kitchener showed the male arriving in a stolen Ford Edge, which he left behind when he took the Mercedes.
A 29-year-old Kitchener man is charged with two counts of possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
A 57-year-old Kitchener woman is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and possessing counterfeit currency. She will appear in court January 27.
Two impaired charges laid
Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving on the weekend, with both registering more than twice the legal limit.
At 12:40 a.m. Saturday, officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically downtown. Officers checked the licence plate and learned the vehicle has not been registered since 2020 and the owner has been unlicensed since 2021.
The vehicle was pulled over and the owner determined to be behind the wheel. He had an odour of alcohol on his breath and was arrested and transported to the police station for testing.
A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and driving without insurance.
At 9:20 p.m. Saturday, officers observed a vehicle being driven at a very high speed near Paisley Road and Elmira Road South. The vehicle was stopped after officers observed the driver to briefly lose control while making a hard left turn onto Chillico Drive.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.

Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
