Impaired charge outside LCBO
A Guelph man faces impaired driving charges after he was found passed out in his vehicle in front of an LCBO store Monday afternoon.
Approximately 3:20 p.m. police were called to a plaza on Wellington Street West after witnesses observed a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of an SUV. Officers spoke to him and noted a very strong odour of alcohol on his breath. A search of the vehicle revealed several empty and partially-filled alcohol containers.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and failing to surrender proof of insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court December 16.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
