Two homes entered after doors smashed
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after two homes in the same south-end neighborhood were entered over the weekend.
On Sunday evening, a resident near Downey Road and Ptarmigan Drive called police after arriving home to find the rear patio door had been smashed. Several lock boxes were pried open and a quantity of Chinese currency as well as a gold necklace were stolen.
The break-in occurred between 2 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
On Monday evening, another resident in the same neighbourhood called police. She had been away for a few days and came home to find her patio door smashed. Several areas of the home were ransacked but it was not immediately clear what was stolen.

Arrest after spitting in officer’s face
A Guelph man was arrested Monday after spitting in a police officer’s face.
Friday afternoon, officers attended an address downtown to assist with apprehending a man under the Mental Health Act. The man resisted and spat directly into one officer’s face. He was arrested and transported to hospital for treatment.
On Monday morning the 27-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for assaulting a police officer. He will appear in court March 31. (Occurrence number GU26010098)
Senior loses $5,900 in bank scam
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a senior lost $5,900 to a bank investigator scam.
On Friday morning, the 86-year-old called police. She said she had received a call from someone claiming to be with her bank and reporting her cards had been used fraudulently in Alberta. The supposed representative arranged to have the complainant hand over her debit and credit cards so they could be destroyed.
Approximately 5 p.m. Thursday a man attended the complainant’s address and was given an envelope with the cards inside. They were subsequently used to make a number of purchases and withdrawals. The suspect was described as having brown skin, 5’5”, 150 pounds and wearing a black toque.

Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime or fraud should report it to their local police and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. Even if no financial loss has been sustained, interactions can still be reported to the CAFC.

Guitars stolen in break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after two guitars with sentimental value were stolen during a break-in.
On Saturday afternoon police were called to an address near Victoria Road North and Woodlawn Road East. The resident said he came home about 11 p.m. Friday and noticed two guitars which had been hanging on the wall were missing.
The missing guitars have little financial value but were given to the victim by his children more than 20 years ago and have significant sentimental value. They were described as an orange and black Epiphone acoustic electric and a black Gretsch acoustic electric.
