$10k in cocaine seized, two arrested

A Guelph man and woman face trafficking-related charges after officers seized nearly $10,000 worth of cocaine from a Willow Road apartment Friday.

Guelph Police Service officers acting on information from another police service executed a search warrant Friday morning. Two people were found inside a locked bedroom, where officers also located cocaine, several digital scales, nearly $2,000 in cash and a collapsible baton.

Prior to the search, someone in another bedroom in the same apartment had thrown a quantity of cocaine and a cellphone out a window, with them landing close to officers watching from below.

A 37-year-old Guelph man and 29-year-old Guelph woman are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The man is also charged with possessing proceeds of crime and three counts of breaching a release order.

The woman will appear in court May 22. The man was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence number GU26011576)

 

Arrest after gun report downtown

A Guelph man faces weapons charges after several reports Friday of a man downtown with a handgun.

Approximately 1:45 p.m. police began receiving reports of a man with a handgun tucked in his pants. One witness also reported seeing the man with the gun in his hands. While officers were on scene speaking to witnesses the man came outside and was arrested.

A search revealed a loaded black pellet gun in his pocket, as well as a spring-assisted knife.

A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possessing a weapon contrary to an order and three counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.

In a separate incident Saturday evening, police were called to the transit terminal on Carden Street after witnesses reported seeing a man holding a possible firearm. The man was located sitting at the back of a bus holding a large cigarette lighter styled to resemble a firearm. A 31-year-old Guelph man was provided advice on use of the item in public. Home entered, ransacked

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a south-end home was entered while the owners are away.

Friday afternoon police were called to a home near Kortright Road West and Ironwood Road. A woman said she has been watching the house while her parents are away and arrived Friday to find a rear patio door smashed. Several rooms had been ransacked but it is not known what if anything was stolen.

Five impaired arrests over the weekend

Five drivers were arrested for impaired driving in separate incidents over the weekend, including one who assaulted a police officer during the arrest.

On Saturday afternoon, police were informed of a possible impaired driver who struck another vehicle in the parking lot of a Silvercreek Parkway North business. A witness spoke to the driver and believed she was impaired but the woman fled before police arrived.

An officer located the suspect at a nearby apartment building but as he approached she shoved him in the chest and tried to flee. She was arrested and transported to the police station, where she repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.

A 52-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, assault police, resisting arrest and failing to stop after an accident. She will appear in court March 3.

Also this weekend:

·        A 45-year-old Guelph woman was arrested Friday evening after several reports of a vehicle being driven erratically on Suffolk Street West

·        A 33-year-old Guelph man was arrested Saturday morning after a vehicle stopped at a red light in the west end was struck from behind. No injuries were reported.

·        An 85-year-old Guelph man was arrested Saturday evening after police received a driving complaint in the west end

·        A 48-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving by a drug Sunday evening after he was found passed out in a running vehicle in the driveway of a Woolwich Street business.

Each of the accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Three Honda CR-Vs stolen from south end

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three Honda CR-Vs were reported stolen from the south end over the weekend, including two from the same parking lot.

Approximately 8:35 a.m. Saturday, a resident near Clair Road East and Dallan Drive reported his white 2024 CR-V had been stolen overnight from the parking lot of his condo building. The vehicle has several souvenir decals on the rear hatch.

One hour later, an Etobicoke man reported his grey 2025 CR-V had been stolen overnight from the same parking lot. A credit card which had been left inside the vehicle was later used at an LCBO in Toronto.

On Saturday afternoon, a resident near Victoria Road South and Frederick Drive reported his navy blue 2025 CR-V had been stolen from the parking lot of his condo building.

This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys.
