Police investigating ‘sextortion’

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a man reported being extorted after sending nude photos.

The victim said he met a male on a dating app and later sent nude photographs as well as his phone number and Instagram profile. He later received texts including the nude photos and a demand for payment or else the photos would be shared with his Instagram contacts.

The victim sent $40 and then cut off communication with the suspect.

The incident remains under investigation.

 

Medical call leads to impaired charge

A Milton woman faces an impaired driving charge after emergency responders responded to a medical call early Tuesday.

Approximately 12:45 a.m. police and EMS responded to an address on York Road where the woman had pulled her car over and called 911. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of crystal methamphetamine.

She was transported to hospital where blood samples were taken for further analysis.

A 31-year-old Milton woman is charged with impaired operation. She will appear in court January 27.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.

 

Two large thefts of baby formula

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a man stole more than $1,100 in baby formular in two thefts an hour apart.

Approximately 3:35 p.m. December 14 a man was observed selecting several containers of formula at a business near Kortright Road West and Edinburgh Road South. He placed the formula into reusable bags and quickly walked out of the store as loss-prevention staff tried to stop him.

At 4:30 p.m. the same man was observed entering a business near Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North. Again, he selected numerous containers of formula and placed them inside bags in his cart. As he headed for the exit he was approached by a loss prevention employee and told he was under arrest, but the man fled on foot.

He was described as a white male with short light brown hair, wearing a red plaid jacket, black pants and greyish white shoes.
