Male Facing Weapon Charges

On January 23rd, 2026, at 1:14am, an adult male was driving in the downtown core of the City of Guelph when a group of adult males walked out in front of his motor vehicle. The driver then exited his vehicle, retrieved a baton and confronted the males. A brief physical altercation ensued between the driver and one of the males.

Police soon arrived on scene and located the driver, however the other males had fled the area.

At 1:36am, the driver was arrested.

A 39-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
-Unauthorized Possession Of A Weapon
-Possession Of A Weapon For A Dangerous Purpose

He will appear in court on March 10th, 2026.

Also, during police interaction, an odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on the driver’s breath. He subsequently registered an “Alert” on an approved screening device during a roadside breath test and had his driver’s license suspended for seven days.

There are no known injuries requiring medical attention stemming from this incident.

Commercial Break In Investigation

Some time between 9pm on January 21st, and 9:15am on January 22nd, 2026, a restaurant located near the intersection of York Road and Victoria Road South in the City of Guelph was entered.

Entry was gained through a smashed glass door.

Numerous items were taken including:
-iPads
-Bottles of alcohol
-Cash

Male Arrested For Mischief

On January 22nd, 2026, at 12:45am, an adult male walked up to a unit inside a residential building located near the intersection of Willow Road and Dawson Road in the City of Guelph. He attempted to gain entry to the unit by kicking the fob entry lock off the door and then proceeded to leave the scene.

The damage was reported to police later that day.

At 7:01pm, police located the male within the same building and he was subsequently arrested.

A 37-year-old Guelph male has been charged with Mischief Under $5,000.

He will appear in court on March 10th, 2026.

Male Facing Numerous Charges After Missing Court

On November 18th, 2025, an adult male failed to attend court to answer to the following charges:
-Possession Of A Weapon Contrary To A Prohibition Order
-Breach Probation x2

On January 22nd, 2026, at 8:47pm, police located the male in the downtown core of the City of Guelph and he was subsequently arrested.

Search incident to arrest revealed a:
-Collapsible baton
-Throwing axe

A 37-year-old Guelph male has been additionally charged with:
-Fail To Attend Court
-Unauthorized Possession Of A Weapon
-Breach Probation x3
-Possession Of A Weapon Contrary To A Prohibition Order x2
-Fail To Comply With Release Order x2

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 23rd.

Multiple Driving Complaints & Motor Vehicle Collisions

Over the past 24 hours the Guelph Police Service received reports of five driving complaints and 12 motor vehicle collisions occurring throughout the City of Guelph.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to slow down, drive according to weather conditions and follow the rules of the road to help ensure everyone arrives to their destination safely.
