Arrest on two dozen charges, five warrants
A Guelph man has been arrested on more than two dozen charges – including break and enter and dangerous driving – related to several recent investigations.
On March 11, 2025, police stopped a BMW sedan on Stone Road East. The driver identified himself and was issued a ticket, however it was later determined the name provided was false.
On November 18, two men entered a business on Stone Road West and attempted to remove a shopping cart full of merchandise. When an employee tried to stop them, he was assaulted. The employee attempted to take a photo of the men’s car, which was driven directly at the victim causing him to fear for his safety.
On December 25, and again on January 14, apartment buildings in the west end were entered using a stolen fob and tenants’ mail was removed from the building.
The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigations and was able to identify a suspect. On Friday, just after 9 p.m., a man was located at a west-end address and arrested.
A 38-year-old Guelph man is charged with obstruct police, driving while suspended, assault, dangerous driving, two counts each of break and enter and wearing a disguise and multiple counts of breaching a release order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
Investigation revealed the man is also wanted on five different warrants from other police services, including a Canada-wide warrant from British Columbia for property and driving offences.
Business break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a break-in Saturday morning at an east-end business.
Approximately 3:35 a.m. police were called to a business near Victoria Road South and York Road, arriving minutes later to find a glass door smashed. Security video showed two men entering the business and placing items into a large, wheeled bag.
Officers followed footprints away from the business and recovered the bag containing a large amount of stolen product abandoned in deep snow nearby.
The first man was wearing a black ski jacket with the hood up, grey cargo pants, a black balaclava and running shoes. The second was wearing a dark winter jacket and a light-coloured hoodie with the hood up.

Weapons charges following arrest
A Guelph man faces weapons charges after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant Friday.
Just before 9 a.m. officers patrolling downtown located a man known to be wanted for missing a court date earlier in the month. He was placed under arrest and during a search officers located three spring-assisted knives in his pockets.
A 70-year-old Guelph man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of possessing a weapon contrary to an order and breach of probation. He will appear in court March 3.
Three vehicles stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three vehicles were reported stolen in separate incidents over the weekend.
Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, a Pickering woman called police to report her white 2025 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen overnight from a parking lot near Bagot Street and London Road West.
At 3:40 p.m. Saturday, a Guelph man reported his grey 2014 BMW 435 had been stolen from the parking lot of his building near Clair Road East and Beaver Meadow Drive sometime since 8:30 p.m. Friday. Investigation revealed the car had twice been captured by Guelph Police automated licence plate readers shortly before 11 p.m. before the owner knew it was stolen.
At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a Guelph woman reported her black 2024 Honda CRV missing from the parking lot of her building near Gordon Street and Harts Lane.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Please report suspicious activity around unattended vehicles, especially during overnight hours.
Home break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a break-in Friday at a north-end home.
At 4:25 p.m. police were called to an address near Inverness Drive and Glenbrook Drive. The owner said he had gone out for approximately 90 minutes and came home to find his front door had been kicked in. Property including a Nikon camera and watch was stolen.
Officers spoke to a witness, who observed a suspicious male parking his car and walking towards the victim’s residence around the same time. The man was described as white, 5’10” with a thin build and wearing a blue coat over a grey hoodie. He was driving a dark-coloured hatchback.

Impaired driving arrest
A Milton man is charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop in downtown Guelph Saturday morning.
Just before 1 a.m. officers were patrolling downtown when they observed a vehicle turning at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the driver asked to take a roadside breath test, which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 21-year-old Milton man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court February 10.

Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
