Arrest after security officers assaulted

A Guelph man faces several charges after three security officers were assaulted Wednesday morning.

Just after 7 a.m. police were called to Guelph General Hospital where a patient had been discharged but refused to leave the facility. When asked by security to leave, he uttered a threat and lunged at the three officers. A physical struggle ensued, during which one officer was punched in the face and poked in the eye before the man was restrained.

A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with three counts of assault, uttering threats and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.

Same vehicle targeted again

The Guelph Police Service continues to investigate after a vehicle was targeted for theft for a second time in as many days.

On Wednesday morning, a resident of Downey Road reported finding her 2025 Lincoln Navigator damaged. Security video revealed two men arrived in a black sedan – believed to be an Audi – at approximately 2:45 a.m. and damaged the Lincoln while attempting to enter it.

On Tuesday morning, the same complainant had reported someone entered the Lincoln overnight and was able to start it but could not drive it due to a security feature the owner had installed. In that occurrence, two men arrived in what appears to be the same black sedan.

Also Wednesday, a resident near Summerfield Drive and Colonial Drive reported his black 2024 GMC Sierra pickup had been stolen from his driveway overnight.

The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Jonathan Schleen at 519-824-1212, ext. 7570, email jschleen@guelphpolice.ca, leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Please report suspicious activity around unattended vehicles, especially during overnight hours.
