Arrests after offering stolen items to victim

A Guelph couple have been arrested after staff of a business were offered a chance to purchase items stolen a day earlier from the same business.

Last November 3, staff of an east-end business reported having aluminum rims and catalytic converters stolen during a break and enter to their yard. The following day a man and woman attended the same business and tried to sell the same items. When confronted by staff about the items being stolen the pair fled, leaving the items behind.

The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigation and were able to identify the suspects. On Tuesday a 51-year-old Guelph woman and 46-year-old Guelph man were arrested for possessing stolen property under $5,000. They were released with February court dates.

Approximately 10:30 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Unit was patrolling in an unmarked vehicle when he spotted a Jeep Compass spinning in circles in the Stone Road Mall parking lot. The officer entered the parking lot and stopped the vehicle.
