Arrest after knife held to throat

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man reported having a knife held to his throat in their shared residence earlier this month.

On July 14, the victim reported he was playing video games inside his supportive housing residence when another man began threatening him. He unsheathed a knife and held it to the victim’s throat and groin before walking away.

On Tuesday afternoon a 50-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breach of probation. He will appear in court October 13. (Occurrence number GU26046424)

Two SUVs stolen, one later recovered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after two SUVs were stolen, one of which was recovered a short time later.

Just before 9 a.m. Tuesday police were called to the area of Paisley Road and Stephanie Drive. A man reported he is visiting Guelph and had parked his rented black Volvo XC6 on the street Monday night. When he went outside Tuesday morning it was gone.

At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday a resident near Eastview Road and Victoria Road North reported their 2024 Honda CRV had just been stolen from the driveway. The vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away with damage to the rear end and side window.

Both incidents remain under investigation.

This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys.
