More than $5k in tools stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after more than $5,000 in tools were stolen from a work van last week.
On Friday morning the owner of a local business reported one of his vans had been entered overnight while parked at an employee's house near Waverley Drive and Windsor Street.
Various power tools and equipment were stolen. Each of the stolen tools had BYP scratched into them.

Quebec man arrested after Aeroplan scam
A Quebec man has been arrested more than a year after a Guelph resident reported someone fraudulently using his Aeroplan account to book several flights.
In January, 2025, a Guelph man fell victim to a scam during which his cellphone was compromised. He took steps afterwards to change his passwords and increase his security, but forgot to change the email associated to his Aeroplan account.
The account was later used to book several flights within Canada. The victim lost the equivalent of nearly $2,100 in points.
On Friday police in Quebec arrested a 23-year-old Montreal man for fraud under $5,000. He will appear in a Guelph court October 13. (Occurrence number GU25033888)
Lexus SUV stolen from driveway
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Lexus SUV was stolen from a south-end driveway.
Just after noon Saturday a resident near Farley Drive and Pine Ridge Drive reported his black 2021 Lexus RX350 had been stolen overnight. It is believed the theft occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Some of the victim’s property -- including children’s car seats – was later found in front of a residential address in Puslinch.
The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Please report suspicious activity around unattended vehicles, especially during overnight hours.

Impaired arrest after speeding stop
A traffic stop for speeding turned into an impaired driving arrest Friday evening.
Approximately 6:45 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Whitelaw Road when he clocked a Ford Bronco travelling 67 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver believed to be under the influence of alcohol. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 54-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and speeding. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court September 4.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
