Arrest after hip broken in assault

A Guelph man has been arrested after an assault earlier this month that left another man with a fractured hip.

Just before 10 p.m. July 11 the victim was visiting a west-end townhouse complex when he was approached by another man and a verbal altercation ensued. The victim was punched and knocked to the ground. When he tried to stand he was again pushed down.

He was transported to hospital and diagnosed with a fractured hip.

Following investigation, a 32-year-old Guelph man was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He will appear in court November 24. (Occurrence number GU26045691)

Two arrested in stolen truck

Two people were arrested Tuesday after they were found inside a stolen U-Haul truck.

Approximately 3:30 p.m. police responded to the area of Speedvale Avenue East and Marlborough Road for reports of a truck which had been parked on the road for a few days. Investigation revealed the truck had been reported stolen after it was rented in June and never returned.

A 31-year-old Guelph man and 27-year-old Guelph woman were arrested for possessing stolen property over $5,000. The man is also charged with theft of a motor vehicle. Both will appear in court in October. (Occurrence number GU26049935)

$6k in tools stolen in break-in

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an estimated $6,000 worth of tools were stolen from a south-end construction site.

On Tuesday morning police were called to a building under construction near Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West. A contractor reported he arrived in the morning to find the locks cut off two large toolboxes in the basement of the building and a number of tools missing. The stolen tools were mostly DeWalt and Milwaukee brands and included drills, grinders, saws and batteries.

Impaired arrest after e-bike crash

A Mississauga man is charged with impaired driving after losing control of his e-bike in Guelph Tuesday night.

Just after 9 p.m. a Guelph Police Service officer located a man lying on the sidewalk near Gordon Street and Nottingham Street being assisted by a passerby. Investigation revealed the man was riding his e-bike when he lost control and fell over with the bike falling on top of him. He was transported to hospital for treatment.

While speaking to the man the officer detected an odour of alcohol on his breath and noted signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and later provided further breath samples which showed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 40-year-old Mississauga man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days.

E-bikes are considered motor vehicles under the Criminal Code of Canada and operators are subject to the same impaired driving laws as the operators of any other motor vehicle. (Occurrence number GU26050028)
