Impaired charge after fleeing police with kids

A Guelph man faces impaired driving and other charges after fleeing from police with his children in the vehicle.

The evening of July 1 officers interacted with the man for approximately one hour while investigating an unrelated matter. During this time officers observed the man to be impaired with a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.

A short time later the same officers were in the area following up another matter when they observed the man driving a car. They knew him to be a prohibited driver. Officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the man did not stop. Officers observed two small children inside the car and did not pursue it.

On Thursday morning officers attended an address outside the city where they observed tire tracks going across the lawn and located the vehicle from the previous night.

A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police and driving while prohibited. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his car was impounded for 45 days. He was held for a bail hearing Friday. (Occurrence number GU26043297)

Arrest after vandalism spree with hammer

A Guelph man faces assault and mischief charges after several vehicles were damaged with a hammer.

Just after 9 p.m. Tuesday Guelph Police Service officers responded to a report of a man damaging vehicles and threatening people.

The incident began shortly after 9 p.m. in the parking lot of a commercial property near Woodlawn Road East and Victoria Road North. The accused then walked east along Woodlawn Road toward a housing complex, where he used the hammer to damage several more vehicles.  He also assaulted and verbally threatened one of the vehicle owners.

A 28-year-old Guelph man was arrested for six counts of mischief, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and more than 30 counts of breaching probation orders. He will appear in bail court Monday. (Occurrence number GU26042991)
