Copper stolen in break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three suspects in a stolen vehicle broke into an east-end business Tuesday night.
Just after 11 p.m. the owner of a business near York Road and Watson Parkway South called police to report a break-in in progress. The caller advised he was watching surveillance video and saw a Mercedes SUV being reversed to a loading dock.
Three men exited the vehicle and used pry bars to force open a garage door. Copper valued at approximately $3,000 was stolen.

Third arrest in pepper spray robbery
A third person has been arrested in connection with a robbery last summer during which a customer was sprayed in the face with a noxious substance while trying to intervene.
Just before 6 p.m. August 20, 2025, four men entered the LCBO on Scottsdale Drive and began placing product into shopping bags. As they walked out a customer attempted to stop one of the men, but was sprayed in the face by another suspect. The stolen product was valued at more than $4,600.
The suspects were identified through investigation. Two of the suspects were previously arrested on charges including theft and assault with a weapon. On Wednesday a 51-year-old man was arrested by police in another jurisdiction for theft under $5,000. He was released to appear in court October 23. (Occurrence number GU25054432)
Two Lincoln SUVs stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after two Lincoln SUVs were stolen in separate incidents from the south end.
Just after 8 a.m. Wednesday, a resident near Downey Road and Ptarmigan Drive reported his white 2025 Lincoln Navigator had been stolen overnight. The vehicle’s tracking system showed an address in Mississauga, where officers later recovered the vehicle.
Approximately 24 hours later, a resident near Goodwin Drive and Dominion Drive reported his black 2025 Navigator had been stolen from the driveway. It is not known if the two thefts are related.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Impaired driving arrest
A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after he was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.
Approximately 3:20 p.m. police received a call about a possible impaired driver attempting to purchase alcohol at a south-end business. Officers attended and located the suspect’s vehicle leaving another nearby business and pulled it over.
While speaking to the driver officers noted an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court September 8.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
