Arrest after employee assaulted

A Guelph man was arrested after an employee at a downtown business was assaulted Monday afternoon.

Approximately 2:40 p.m. a man entered a licensed establishment. An employee declined to serve him as he was already intoxicated. The man became angry and punched the employee in the face.

Officers arrived on scene a short time later and arrested him. A 40-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault and public intoxication. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26044402)

Fake assault claim leads to arrest

A Guelph woman has been arrested after falsely claiming she was assaulted downtown last month.

Approximately 2:40 a.m. June 13, the woman called 911 to report the assault. She later provided a detailed statement to investigators and described her alleged assailant.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, officers determined she made multiple false statements and was in fact the aggressor during the interaction, much of which was caught on video.

On Monday night a 20-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for public mischief and assault. She will appear in court September 22. (Occurrence number GU26038742)

Stolen truck found, suspect flees

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a stolen tractor-trailer was recovered in Guelph Monday evening.

Approximately 6:15 p.m. police were called to an address on Campbell Road for reports of a man possibly trying to steal a truck. As officers arrived they saw a dark-coloured Toyota Land Cruiser fleeing at a high rate of speed and evading police.

Officers examined the truck and found identifying decals had been removed and parts of the dash were torn out. Officials with the Mississauga company that owns the truck were contacted and were unaware it had been stolen.
