Arrest after paramedic assaulted

A Guelph man was arrested after a paramedic was headbutted by a patient.

Shortly before midnight Tuesday police were called to attend Guelph General Hospital. A man being transported due to illicit drug use lunged from the gurney and struck a paramedic on the nose with his head.

Hospital security intervened and were able to take the man inside where he was arrested by responding officers. A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault. He will appear in court September 25. (Occurrence number GU26044764)

 

Woman arrested after standoff

A Guelph woman was arrested Wednesday night after a nearly three-hour standoff at a west-end apartment building.

Approximately 7:40 p.m. officers attended an address near Paisley Road and Stephanie Drive to arrest a woman for missing her court date in May. After officers knocked on the door the woman verbally confirmed she was inside the apartment but refused to come out.

Officers remained at the building while seeking a warrant to enter the property. Just before 10:30 p.m. officers entered the unit and arrested a 24-year-old woman for failing to appear. She was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26044981)

 

Impaired charge at mall

A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday after someone reported a possible impaired driver at Stone Road Mall.

Approximately 10:30 a.m. a witness reported a man and woman exiting a vehicle in the mall parking lot before stumbling around the lot and then entering a store.

Officers located the male driver in the parking lot and noted signs of impairment including slurred speech. After performing poorly on a field sobriety test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs.

A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized for seven days. He will appear in court August 21.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911. (Occurrence number GU26044839)
