Arrest after suspected drug lab discovered
A Guelph man was arrested Thursday after a suspected drug lab was discovered inside a unit at a self-storage business.
The Guelph Police Service was alerted to suspicious activity at an east-end business. Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit attended Thursday morning to ensure the safety of the public.
A 33-year-old Guelph man was arrested as he arrived at the business while police were on scene. Search warrants executed at the storage unit and the man’s address revealed quantities of suspected controlled substances as well as a large amount of chemicals, lithium batteries, a scale, coveralls and glass jars.
The man is charged with production of dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic compound more commonly known as DMT. He will appear in court September 1. (Occurrence number GU26038278)
East-end business entered
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an east-end business was entered early Friday.
Approximately 4:15 a.m. the owner of a business near Grange Road and Victoria Road North reported a break and enter in progress. He reported a man had smashed a window to gain entry and then smashed a display case to remove product. The owner was watching via surveillance video.
The suspect was wearing a hoody with a large white emblem on the back, a black hat and a black bandana. He fled in a blue SUV.

Trading seats leads to arrest
A Brampton man was arrested after falsely claiming he was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a collision.
On June 1 a man attended the Collision Reporting Centre and told staff he was a passenger in the vehicle. A few days later the other driver attended the Centre and reported the man had actually been the driver, and that he switched seats with his passenger after the collision.
On Thursday a 48-year-old Brampton man was arrested for obstructing a peace officer. He will appear in court September 22. (Occurrence number GU26038411)
Impaired charge after hit and run
A Kitchener man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after he was involved in a hit and run collision in Guelph Thursday afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m. a woman was driving her SUV southbound on Gordon Street just south of Wellington Street when she heard an engine revving behind her and then her vehicle was struck from behind. The driver of the second vehicle did not stop and was seen fleeing the area.
Approximately two hours later the involved driver attended the Collision Reporting Centre on Clair Road West. Officers spoke to the man and detected an odour of alcohol. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 19-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court July 21.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
