Crossbow leads to arrest
A Guelph man faces weapons and drug charges after a concerned citizen shared a photo of a man in possession of a crossbow.
Last week, police received security camera footage of a man carrying a crossbow with a scope outside a business on Woolwich Street. Through investigation officers were able to identify the man, who is bound by several court orders prohibiting him from possessing weapons.
On Friday night officers located the man outside a downtown business and placed him under arrest. The man tried to flee and resisted officers before they were able to handcuff him. During a search a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was located and seized. The crossbow was not recovered.
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of possessing a weapon contrary to an order, four counts of breaching probation orders, resisting arrest and possessing a controlled substance. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court July 17. (Occurrence number GU26038649)
$22k in wire stolen from construction site
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after approximately $22,000 in copper wire was stolen from an east-end construction site.
Friday morning the operations manager of a local construction company reported nearly 50 feet of heavy-duty wire had been cut and removed from the site on Victoria Road North. It is not known when the wire was stolen.

Two boys arrested for robbery
Two Guelph boys are charged with robbery after a third reported being assaulted and having his property stolen.
On Friday evening the victim reported he was walking in the area of Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue when he was approached and threatened by two other boys. The victim was assaulted and had his backpack and a basketball stolen. The property was later discarded in a portable toilet.
Officers located the suspects in the area a short time later and arrested them. Two boys, aged 12 and 13, are charged with robbery. They will appear in court July 22. (Occurrence number GU26038658)
Home entered while owners out
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a south-end home was entered Saturday while the owners were out.
Just before 1 p.m. officers were dispatched to an address near Beaver Meadow Drive and McArthur Drive after the owner returned home to discover a side window smashed. The home’s surveillance cameras had been disabled and several closets ransacked.
Officers spoke to neighbours, who described a suspicious male in the area around the same time. He was described as being in his 30s or 40s, 5’7” with an average build and tanned skin and wearing a dark t-shirt and shorts and a black hat.

Impaired arrest following collision
An Arthur man is charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle collision in Guelph Saturday morning.
Just after 5 a.m. officers were called to the area of Laird Road and Downey Road where they found an SUV approximately 100 metres off the road in a field. Officers spoke to the driver and noted signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test the man was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 19-year-old Arthur man is charged with impaired driving, careless driving and young driver having alcohol in his system. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court July 24.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
