Arrest in ATM break-in
An Aurora man has been arrested after someone broke into a Guelph ATM earlier this year.
On April 24, police were called to a business on Speedvale Avenue East after the owner arrived to find the front door smashed and a Bitcoin ATM damaged.
Investigation revealed a man had attended the business the previous day and deposited cash into the machine to purchase cryptocurrency. He returned overnight and broke into the store before forcing open the ATM and removing cash.
The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigation, working with another police service to identify a suspect. On Tuesday a 51-year-old Aurora man was arrested for break and enter and possessing break-in instruments. He will appear in court September 8. (Occurrence number GU26026476)
Staff confront theft suspect
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after staff of a south-end business confronted a theft suspect Tuesday afternoon.
Approximately 2:20 p.m. police were called to a business near Gordon Street and Clair Road East. A man had entered the business and placed more than $300 worth of baby formula into a bag before walking out. He was followed outside by two employees, who confronted the man and convinced him to drop the bag.
The man was described as approximately 50 years old with brown skin, bald with a large tattoo on his upper right arm. He was wearing a black shirt, white shorts and black running shoes and was last seen fleeing in the passenger seat of a silver Honda Civic.
The Guelph Police Services discourages residents from confronting suspects. Rather witnesses should collect as much identifying information as possible and contact police immediately.
