Kitchener man arrested on drug charges

A Kitchener man faces drug charges after Guelph Police Service officers observed a suspicious vehicle Sunday night.

Just after 11:30 p.m. officers observed a Mercedes leaving an address known to be associated with the drug trade. A short time later it entered another nearby parking lot and the driver remained in the car with the engine running. A few minutes later a woman was observed getting into the car.

Officers approached and could see suspected crack cocaine in the driver’s lap and that the woman had a banking application open on her phone. The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle revealed quantities of suspected fentanyl as well as scales contaminated with drug residue, drug packaging and more than $600 cash.

A 47-year-old Kitchener man is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence number GU26040864)

 

Arrest after employee grabbed, punched

A Guelph man faces charges after an employee of a downtown business was sexually assaulted and punched in the face early Sunday.

Just before 1 a.m. the woman was working as a waitress when a patron unknown to her touched her inappropriately. The woman reacted and pushed the man away, then was punched twice in the face causing a minor injury. The man fled but was located a short distance away and arrested.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with sexual assault and assault. He will appear in court September 11. (Occurrence number GU26040653)

 

Truck loaded with Sea-Doos stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a truck loaded with personal watercrafts was stolen over the weekend.

On Sunday morning police were called to a business near Clair Road West and Laird Road. A lock had been cut to gain access to the yard and two vehicles parked to block the gates had been moved causing damage to both.

A white 2020 Volvo truck and trailer had been stolen. The trailer was loaded with 16 See-Doo personal watercrafts valued at more than $80,000.

Robbery charge following theft

A Guelph man is charged with robbery after an employee of a south-end business was confronted by a thief.

Approximately 8:35 p.m. Friday a man entered a business near Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West. He selected product and walked out. The store manager followed the man, who became verbally aggressive before charging at the victim and attempting to punch him. The victim was not injured.

Officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him. An 18-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery. He will appear in court September 11. (Occurrence number GU26040401)

 

Two impaired driving charges

Two Guelph men face impaired driving charges following separate incidents Friday.

Just before 3:30 p.m. police were called for a two-vehicle collision at Woodlawn Road West and Dawson Road where a stopped vehicle had been rear-ended.

While speaking to the drivers, officers noted one had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.

A few hours later, just before 8:30 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically on Wellington Street East. Officers located and stopped the vehicle on York Road and noted the driver appeared drowsy and confused. The man said he didn’t have his driver’s licence with him and appeared surprised when officers pointed to his wallet in the centre console.

He was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs. While searching the vehicle officers located three identity documents in other people’s names.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, driving while prohibited and three counts of possessing an identity document.

Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. Both were released with upcoming court dates.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
