Arrest after restaurant staff assaulted
A Guelph man was arrested after an employee of a west-end restaurant was assaulted Wednesday.
Approximately 12:30 p.m. police were called to a business near Elmira Road North and Speedvale Avenue West. A man had ordered a meal and then refused to pay for it. When an employee tried to prevent him from leaving he was shoved several times before the suspect fled. The victim was not injured.
Officers located the man nearby and arrested him. A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault and food fraud. He will appear in court September 15. (Occurrence number GU26041444)
Stolen pickup recovered
The Guelph Police Service continues to investigate after a stolen pickup was recovered Wednesday.
Approximately 4:15 p.m. a Fergus woman contacted police and said she had information where her truck could be. Officers attended the area of Gladstone Avenue and Metcalfe Street and located the white 1988 GMC. It had been reported stolen early Tuesday.

Impaired charge after traffic stop
A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after a Guelph Police Service officer observed a vehicle being driven erratically Wednesday evening.
The officer was patrolling on Victoria Road South approximately 9:40 p.m. when she saw a pickup being driven without lights. The vehicle made several lane changes without signaling and when the officer pulled it over the driver mounted the curb before driving back onto the road.
The driver had an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 29-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, driving without proof of insurance and driving with improper lighting. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court August 11.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
