Teen arrested for fleeing police

A Guelph boy faces several charges after fleeing a Guelph Police Service officer earlier this week.

Just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the officer observed a vehicle being driven without licence plates in the area of Clair Road East and Gordon Street. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle the driver sped up, running a red light and numerous stop signs and driving through a residential area at nearly double the speed limit.

The officer discontinued the pursuit in the interest of public safety and a short time later located the vehicle abandoned. The owner attended and provided information about who had been driving.

On Thursday a 14-year-old Guelph boy attended the police station with his parents and was arrested for flight from police, dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving without a licence. He will appear in court August 12. (Occurrence number GU26041647)

 

Man arrested after assault with cane

A Guelph man has been arrested after a woman reported being repeatedly struck with a cane earlier this month.

The afternoon of June 5, the victim attended the police station to report the incident. She said she was confronted outside an address on Woolwich Street just after midnight by a man who accused her of stealing his belongings. The two are known to each other.

During the altercation the woman reported she was struck several times in the head and back with a cane. Bystanders came to her assistance and the man fled the area.

On Thursday a 65-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He will appear in court September 15. (Occurrence number GU26036846)

 

Man sought in attempted bank fraud

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a man tried to open a bank account with fraudulent documents earlier this month.

Approximately 11:30 a.m. June 10 officers were called to a south-end bank. An employee reported a man was in the branch attempting to open an account, however staff believed the documents he was using to prove his identity were fake. He left before police arrived.
