Knife pulled on pharmacy staff
A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after staff of a local pharmacy were confronted by a man armed with a knife Saturday.
Just before 3 p.m. staff of a business in the east end reported a man armed with a knife who was upset they would not refill a prescription. He was holding the knife while being verbally aggressive.
Officers arrived on scene moments later and saw the man in the parking lot. A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court July 3. (Occurrence number GU26037142)
Teens arrested after downtown disturbance
Two Guelph teens face several charges following a disturbance downtown Friday night.
Just before 9 p.m. police were called to the area of Gordon Street and Wellington Street East. Four females reported they were involved in a verbal altercation with another group, during which a member of the second group brandished a collapsible baton and uttered threats towards them.
Investigation revealed the two groups had been involved in an altercation a short time earlier at the transit terminal on Carden Street. During the earlier incident one of the females was struck in the face. Both suspects are on release orders with conditions not to contact each other. Both provided fake names to officers on scene.
A Guelph boy and girl, both 17, are charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, obstructing police and two counts of breaching an undertaking. Both were held for bail hearings and have been released to appear in court June 24. (Occurrence number GU26036960)
$2,500 in tools stolen from store
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after more than $2,500 in tools were stolen from a north-end business.
The evening of June 3 two men entered a business on Woodlawn Road West. They placed several Milwaukee tools – including saws, sanders and multi-tools – in a cart and walked out of the store.
One of the men was described as 5’9”, 220 pounds and wearing a white t-shirt, black sweatpants, a black hat, black and white Adidas running shoes and reading glasses.

Cane used in assault
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a woman reported being repeatedly struck with a cane during a dispute Friday.
On Friday afternoon the victim attended the police station to report the incident. She said she was confronted outside an address on Woolwich Street just after midnight by a man who accused her of stealing his belongings. The two are known to each other.
During the altercation the woman reported she was struck several times in the head and back with a cane. Bystanders came to her assistance and the man fled the area.

Impaired charge after traffic stop
A Brampton woman is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop in Guelph Sunday morning.
Approximately 12:45 a.m. officers received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically in the west end. An officer with the Traffic Unit spotted the vehicle and pulled it over close to downtown. The driver was asked to provide a roadside breath test which resulted in a fail.
She was arrested and transported to the police station where further tests confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system. A 24-year-old Brampton woman is charged with impaired driving. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and the car, which did not belong to her, was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court July 21.

Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
