Man arrested, $7k in drugs seized

A Guelph man faces trafficking charges after police seized more than $7,000 in cocaine and opioid pills Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier this year, the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into a man believed to be trafficking controlled substances. During surveillance the man was observed acting in a manner consistent with trafficking in Guelph and Waterloo Region.

Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday he was located in a vehicle in a Woodlawn Road West parking lot and arrested. Officers seized a quantity of cocaine and more than 450 prescription opioids with a total value of $7,200.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26016053)

 

Girl arrested after assault at school

A Guelph girl has been arrested after an assault last month at a local high school.

On February 13, a girl was outside the school when another girl grabbed her by the hair and punched her several times. The attack was prompted by comments on a social media chat. The victim sought medical attention and was diagnosed with a concussion.

On Wednesday a 14-year-old Guelph girl was arrested for assault causing bodily harm. She will appear in court June 3. (Occurrence number GU26010089)

 

Stunt driving charge

A Guelph man will be looking for another way to get around after being taken off the road Wednesday for stunt driving.

Just before 9 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting radar on Gordon Street near Maltby Road when he clocked a Volkswagen travelling 108 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.

A 46-year-old Guelph man is charged with speeding, stunt driving and failing to surrender a vehicle permit. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. (Occurrence number GU26016121)
