Child arrested in two robbery investigations

A child has been arrested following two separate robbery investigations hours apart on the weekend.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, police were notified of an incident which had taken place at a north-end park an hour earlier. A 14-year-old boy reported being punched and threatened with bear spray before his sweater was stolen. The suspect and victim are known to each other.

Approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday police were called to a business near York Road and Ontario Street. An employee reported he was sprayed in the face with bear spray by a youth who stole candy and fled.

The suspect was located and arrested a short distance away. A 12-year-old Guelph boy is charged with two counts of robbery, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and breaching a release order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence number GU26018174, GU26018242)

 

Arrest after pellet gun fired at residence

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after a pellet gun was discharged towards a north-end residence.

Just after noon Sunday, police were called to an apartment building near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue. A witness saw a man yelling a threatening remark while aiming a firearm towards a unit. He discharged the weapon twice before running away.

Officers responded and located the man attempting to flee the area. He was stopped and a pellet gun and two knives were located in his possession.

A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts each of breaching a probation order and possessing a weapon contrary to an order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence number GU26018554)

 

Stolen vehicle abandoned, man arrested

A Kitchener man was arrested Sunday after a stolen vehicle was abandoned at a Guelph gas station.

Approximately 8:40 a.m. police were called to a gas station on Speedvale Avenue West. The caller reported a man parked a Honda Accord at a pump but then was unable to restart it and left the area on foot. Investigation revealed it had been stolen from Kitchener while warming up earlier in the day.

Just before 6 p.m. the suspect was located and arrested inside a north-end business. A 31-year-old Kitchener man is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000. He will appear in court June 19. (Occurrence number GU26018510)

 

Attempt vehicle theft

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after the attempted theft of a Lexus SUV Friday morning.

Just after 8 a.m. a resident near Pine Ridge Drive and Jenson Boulevard reported two males attempted to steal her 2025 Lexus. Security video showed two men arriving in a dark-coloured sedan approximately 2:40 a.m. One smashed a rear window to gain entry but was not able to override the vehicle’s electrical system.

The victim reported she was unable to start or unlock the vehicle afterwards.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Impaired arrest

A Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving early Sunday following a call from a concerned citizen.

Approximately 3:15 a.m. a man reported another man who was very unsteady on his feet while attempting to enter a business on Woodlawn Road West. The witness followed the man as he drove away from the area. Officers located the suspect in a parking lot on Silvercreek Parkway North.

The driver was showing signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test he was transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court May 5.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
