Armed robbery under investigation

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a west-end business was robbed Monday morning.

Just after 11 a.m. police were called to a robbery in progress at a business near Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road. An employee reported a man entered the business and used a large pry tool to break through locked doors leading to the employee-only area.

The sole employee locked herself in an office while the suspect removed cash from registers before fleeing the business. He was observed running to a neighbouring parking lot where it is believed he entered a vehicle and fled the scene.

The employee was assessed by paramedics but did not sustain any physical injury.

The suspect was described as a black male with a medium build and wearing a black hoodie with a circle logo on the front, dark pants, red shoes and a face mask.

Just before 8 a.m. a resident near Gordon Street and Lowes Road reported his black 2024 Tundra had been stolen overnight. The complainant parked it Sunday evening and found broken glass on the driveway in the morning.

Earlier in the morning the Guelph Police Service had responded for attempt thefts of Tundras in two other south-end neighbourhoods.

Arrest after pepper spray found

A Guelph woman was arrested after she was found in possession of pepper spray early Monday.

Approximately 1:20 a.m. police were called after a passerby found a woman lying on the ground near Liverpool Street and Arnold Street. Officers arrived and found the woman walking away. While speaking to her to determine her well-being they found the cannister of spray.

Investigation revealed the 35-year-old Guelph woman is bound by two different court orders banning her from possessing weapons and she was arrested for breaching those orders. She was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
